Tech Challenge

On Thursday Orewa hosted the 2016 Tech Challenge. We had 12 different schools come from all over Rodney and the Northshore. The Orewa 1 team had our very own Leon and Jasmin participating. They completed a series of three challenges with specific equipment that was supplied and a challenging task to complete which was to construct something using the challenge guidelines only. 

The teams final product was judged on a specific criteria which earned them points towards their final score.

The team below placed 2nd out of the year 8 teams.

Congratulations to Milly Eliasen who was the 8TRA manaaki nominee for week 1 Term 3.

Mrs Taurua wrote about the awesome kind of person she is and she received the most votes from the yr 7 & 8 teachers and won the MAMA yr8 trophie !

Olympics!

8TRA have been exploring a number of aspects of the Olympics. We have some students conducting their own inquiries based on their own interests in relation to the Olympics and others have tasks that they are working through.

Here are a few examples of the Mascot research and creations if we were to create our own mascot for New Zealand.

Massive Congratulations to Jasmin - Jasmin was awarded the Science prize for 8TRA based on her overall effort in the science project. This was awarded at the Arts centre on Wednesday 3 August. Well done Jasmin, keep up the good work!

Mathex

 This week we have had the opportunity to participate in the Mathex challenge. First we got into groups and challenged each other in 8TRA, then the top two groups went and competed against the rest of the Year 8's in the gym. Unfortunately we had a few student's at the Netball Zone day who missed out on competing. The questions were challenging but we got there in the end. It was very confusing but we really enjoyed the challenge (Alexia)
